Economic data remains bleak. Housing starts and industrial production were worse than expected. Monthly building permits and import prices were generally in-line with expectations, but were still uninspiring. Earnings from Deere and Comcast also failed to ignite the market. Among bellwether tech stocks, gains came from Microsoft, Intel IBM, Cisco and Google.
