Closed in the red on weak Microsoft's earnings

The Microsoft company made the announcement before the market opened, ahead of its scheduled after-market earnings call. Intel fell 3% after the semiconductor maker said it would close some production facilities. AMD gave up 10% ahead of the chip company's earnings report, due after the market close. However, AAPL bucked the downward trend after reporting a quarterly profit that beat Wall Street's expectations.
Google reported its first-ever decline in quarterly profit, didn't impress investors and lost 2% after hours. AMD shares lost 3% in extended trading after the results were announced.
